As 2009 fades away, it’s time to step up to the plate and make my predictions for 2010. While my predictions for 2009 had a few misses, like the one that had the US dollar reaching parity with the Euro, some of my calls were actually spot on. My call on where the S&P 500 would close is within 1% of where it is!
Okay, enough backpatting, let’s get to the predictions:
1- Faced with unprecedented low popularity due to their reckless spending and softness on national defense, the Democrats lose control of congress, as a new Republican revolution sweeps the US.
2- The S&P 500 has another volatile year, but ends up registering a gain to close at 1291
3- The Planet continues to cool
4-After announcing that he will stay in school, University of Washington QB sensation Jake Locker has a great season and wins the Heisman Trophy.
5- A small scale sub-prime crisis hits Israeli real estate. As interest rates move up, and linked mortgages are reset, many recent buyers are unable to make monthly payments and are forced to sell their homes for 10-15% lower than they were purchased for.
6- Speaking of interest rates, the US government 20 year bond hits a 5.1% yield.
7- Zack Miller’s investing book, ” Tradestream Your Way to Profits” (coming out in the spring)becomes a business best seller.
8- The traditional secular stance of the Turkish army is lost as the country moves towards fundamentalism. This creates even more chaos in the Middle East, and Israel and India become very close allies.
9- Gold euphoria ends as common sense enters the market, sending the price down to $750 an ounce.
10- Prez. Obama actually calls an Islamic terrorist, an Islamic terrorist. Well maybe that should be for 2011!
Happy New Year,
Aaron

It was only a few weeks ago that market pundits were predicting the US Dollar to reach 4.5 against the Israeli Shekel. Well what sayeth you pundits now?
Can you say 3.89???? Giddy up. The Shekel, like most other currencies continue to soar as President Obama continues to print money. We have seen a 7% fall in the USD/NIS rate in less than a month. Didn’t Obama say that he wanted a strong greenback?
It’s not exactly like the Israeli economy is on fire. This is clearly a USD story and doesn’t have much to do with the Shekel. As long as we continue to see businesses become nationalized, and the US Mint working 24/7, this has the potential to become a bigger and longer trend.

So who cares if Israel is a democratic state, which just held elections and voted for a Prime Minister? Apparently for the hotshots at AIPAC, the fact that a wide majority of Israeli’s voted for the right wing is irrelevant, and these delegates are going to decide the future of Israel. There is no explicable reason why AIPAC delegates are going to lobby congressmen all over Washington to sign a letter, supporting a 2 state solution with the Palestinians. Something that newly elected PM Netanyahu opposes.
No offense, but who the hell is AIPAC to make this decision? It’s like sticking a knife into the back of the Israeli public. Here is a news alert: Maybe a 2 state solution would be bad for Israel!
Is the reason for this abuse of power to cozy up to President Obama, who clearly has an agenda that is questionable at best vis-a-vis Israel.
According to the Jpost: ” The pro-Israel advocacy group’s annual conference culminates each year with a mass lobbying effort, in which the thousands of participants from across the United States spread out across Capitol Hill for meetings with their respective members of Congress and encourage them to endorse policies and positions that AIPAC believes will advance the American-Israeli interest.
In this year’s lobbying effort, to take place on Tuesday, the AIPAC thousands will be asking their congressmen to sign on to a letter addressed to Obama that explicitly posits the need for a “viable Palestinian state.”
A ‘viable Palestinian State’…. hello?? The PA won’t acknowledge that Israel is a Jewish state. While you drive home to your palace in New Rochelle feeling good that you are doing good by the Palestinians and ending the injustice that Israel has done to them, those of us who live in Israel, will be dodging missiles, drive-by shooting and other types of terror.
Thanks for selling us out, AIPAC.

So what’s your solution, Mr. Secretary, more sanctions? Well that hasn’t gotten the world very far, has it? Haven’t sanctions been imposed and all the while the Iranians continue to build their nuclear program?
It appears that US Defense Sec’y Robert Gates is the latest in a long line of Obama administration officials warning Israel not to use a military strike against Iran to delay their nuclear program, which will threaten Israel’s very existence.
According to Ynet: “US Defense Secretary Robert Gates warned this week that an Israeli attack on Iran would have dangerous consequences, and claimed that Tehran’s acquisition of a nuclear bomb can be prevented only if “Iranians themselves decide it’s too costly,” the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday. Speaking to students at Marines Corps University in Quantico, Virginia, Gates said that while an Israeli strike would likely delay the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program one to three years, it would also “cement their (Iranians) determination to have a nuclear program, and also build into the whole country an undying hatred of whoever hits them.”
First of all, even a delay would benefit Israel, and secondly, what is your solution. You have been asleep at the wheel for years as Iran continues to thumb their nose at UN sanctions , and have progressed beyond the stage of enriching uranium. Your policy has been a failure. Why does the Obama administration continue to threaten Israel, an ally, while pander to Iran, the enemy?
