We spend a lot of time here at IOI, discussing which Israeli stocks that trade in the US are our favorites. You’ve all read our thoughts regarding Comverse (CMVT.pk) and the value that we believe is soon to be unlocked. We’ve spoken about geothermal energy provider Ormat (ORA) and the future we believe the company has. I could go on and on, but I will spare you.

With Israel turning 60 this week, IOI would like to hear from you. We want to know what your favorite Israeli stock is and why? Which stock do you think will provide superior returns?

Feel free to post a comment and share with all our readers your analysis.

Verint Systems (VRNT.pk) Makes Rio Safer

For all you heading to Rio de Janeiro, but worried about the crime, you can breathe a sigh of relief, as the city’s crime rates have started to drop. How, you may ask? Due to Israelitechnology. Verint Systems’ (VRNT.pk), one of our favorites at IOI, surveillance systems have made a dramatic impact in fighting crime for the Brazilian city. So much so, that their system is being deployed in more areas than originally planned.

The success to date of Verint’s Nextiva Critical Infrastructure has earned praise from those connected to crime fighting. “We are committed to providing a safe city atmosphere for the residents and visitors of Rio de Janeiro, and through our expanded deployment of Verint’sNextiva solution, we will continue to decrease crime rates to allow our economy to thrive,”said Edval de Oliveria Novaes, Under Secretary of Intelligence for the city of Rio de Janeiro. “We’ve already seen dramatic, positive results from the initial deployment, and this expansion will build on that success.”

The success of the initial implementation, which contributed to the reduction of crime rates by over 50% in the high-traffic area of Copacabana Beach, is staggering.

Obviously this is a big win for Verint as a major deployment in such a major city, proves their effectiveness in video surveillance.

It’s just a shame that only now things are safer at Copacabana beach. Had Verint been around 30 years ago, Rico never would have shot Tony, and Lola would have been able to live her life. Instead she is…. ” Still in the dress she used to wear, faded feathers in her hair She sits there so refined, and drinks herself half-blind She lost her youth and she lost her Tony Now she’s lost her mind!

Oh well. Better late than never.

Team Hoyt: What Life is All About

While here at IOI, we try and stick to blogging about Israeli stocks  that trade in the US, we just couldn’t pass up writing about one of the most inspirational stories of parenthood and love that we have seen.

Meet Team Hoyt. Dick and Rick Hoyt are a father-and-son team from Massachusetts who together compete just about continuously in marathon races. And if they’re not in a marathon they are in a triathlon, combining  26.2 miles of running, 112 miles of bicycling, and 2.4 miles of swimming. Together they have climbed mountains, and once trekked 3,735 miles across America.

“At Rick’s birth in 1962 the umbilical cord coiled around his neck and cut off oxygen to his brain. Dick and his wife, Judy, were told that there would be no hope for their child’s development.

“It’s been a story of exclusion ever since he was born,” Dick told me. “When he was eight months old the doctors told us we should just put him away — he’d be a vegetable all his life, that sort of thing. Well those doctors are not alive any more, but I would like them to be able to see Rick now.”

With Dick, 66 years old, running, peddling and swimming, all while pulling Rick, an extra 120 lbs., the fact that Dick can finish marathon’s and triathlon’s, is awfully inspiring for this couch potato. But more inspiring is the love between father and son. One viewing of the video and you already begin to appreciate what’s important in the world. It’s not about making an extra buck, or working a 15 hour day so that your employer gets wealthy, it’s about family, and helping out those less fortunate have a fulfilling life.

The goal of the Hoyt Foundation Inc. is to integrate the physically challenged into everyday life. One way to accomplish this is to educate the able-bodied, making them more aware of the issues that the disabled face every day. Another is by actively helping the disabled to participate in activities that would otherwise be inaccessible to them.

Let’s wish them well as they get set to, once again, tackle the challenge of the Boston Marathon, in a few weeks.
