Thanks Tzipi: UN Maybe Leaving Southern Lebanon

Written by: Aaron Katsman | April 12, 2009

In what she continuously hailed as her great ‘diplomacy’, which basically was turning Israeli security sovereignty over to the UN in southern Lebanon after the last Lebanon war, it now appears that the UN is going to pull out. What hath you say Tzipi Livni? Now what? Let’s see, you pushed for a UN resolution which was nevr enforced and now the supposed peacekeepers are going to leave. That leaves a rearmed Hezbollah sitting on the Israeli border. Great it of diplomacy….Not.

According to the Jpost: “The United Nations force in southern Lebanon is on its way to “disintegrating,” senior defense officials warned on Saturday, after
Poland
announced it was withdrawing its troops from the peacekeeping force.
Polish Defense Minister Bogdan Klich announced on Friday during a visit to
Lebanon
that the 500 Polish soldiers currently assigned to UNIFIL would return home by the end of the year. “Poland is more and more involved in NATO and EU missions. Thus we are returning from UN missions,” Klich said, adding that “they ceased to play such an important role for the security of
Poland
as it has been the case in the past.”

Congrats Tzipi. Job well done.

Tzipi Livni and Gilad Schalit: An Pre-Election Surprise?

Written by: Aaron Katsman | February 8, 2009

With the local Israeli media filled with reports about a pending deal that includes the release of kidnapped Israeli Gilad Schalit, the flames of cynicism must burn wild. It’s hard to ignore this sudden flurry of diplomacy 36 hours before Israeli elections. No disrespect, but where was Tzipi Livni for the last 2.5 years? All of the sudden she is fighting tooth and nail to get an agreement done to insure his release. This has nothing to do with her trying to win an election, does it?

According to a Jpost report, Livni said,  “I have the responsibility to bring
Gilad
Schalit home. The cost of public debate [on this] does not contribute to the cause [of releasing Schalit]… The prudent at that time shall keep silent.”

Uh, where have you been until now? Suddenly you are overcome with your ‘responsibility’ to bring Schalit home? This is sick.

We all hope and pray that Schalit is returned home quickly and safely. Let’s hope that the lady who has failed in her ‘responsibility’ for the last few years, doesn’t get credit for an election eve surprise.

Israeli Election Alert: Netanyahu Says to Topple Hamas

Written by: Aaron Katsman | February 3, 2009

Commenting on the recent wave of Hamas missile attacks on southern Israel, something that was to have stopped with the recent cease-fire, PM wannabe Benjamin Netanyahu came out and said that he supports an overthrow of the Hamas regime.

The Jpost reports: ” Kadima leader] Tzipi Livni and the people of Kadima scoffed at the predictions regarding
rocket
fire. A

government
led by me will overthrow the
Hamas rule in Gaza and bring about a cessation of rocket fire,” Netanyahu said during a tour of Ashkelon following the first Grad
rocket
attack since the conclusion of Operation Cast Lead some two weeks ago.
“The policy of blindness followed in the past years has brought us to this situation,” Netanyahu continued. “Residents can no longer count on miracles and Kadima policy.”

Netanyahu becomes the first Israeli leader to openly call for the overthrow of Hamas. Clearly this is a veer to the right to try and capture Likud voters that are gravitating toward Avigdor Lieberman and his Israel Beiteinu party, which is surging in the polls.

Netanyahu has come under criticism from his own party for employing a strategy of trying to run out teh clock, in order to become the next PM. Critics claim that if he were more aggressive in his attacks, his Likud party would win another 50-10 seats in the Knesset.
