Common wisdom held that most global terrorism was caused by those people offended by the value system of the west as well as a hatred of Israel. Now comes along Thomas Finger and dispels the myth. Apparently global warming is the cause of terrorism.
The Chairman of the National Intelligence Council spoke to Congress earlier this week. According to a CNN report he said, ” Climate change “will aggravate existing problems such as poverty, social tensions, environmental degradation, ineffectual leadership and weak political institutions. All of this threatens the domestic stability of a number of African, Asian, Central American and Central Asian countries.
People are likely to flee destabilized countries, and some may turn to terrorism.
The conditions exacerbated by the effects of climate change could increase the pool of potential recruits into terrorist activity.”
What a bunch of garbage. (Oops, bad choice of words, with all the landfill issues we face). Basically he is saying that due to economic hardship and political instability, people are going to start blowing themselves up and kill innocent people. Maybe he could give the human race a bit more credit. After all 30 years ago, when human destruction was threatened by an ice age, people didn’t flee to terrorism, and terrorists hijacked airplanes and killed Israeli Olympians in Munich, without knowledge of global warming. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn’t the world continually face poverty, social tensions and a lack of political leadership? Except for radical Islam and their Jihadists, we don’t see citizens who live in countries with these issues, turn to terrorism.
Let’s see: we had tens of thousands killed in Chinese earthquakes, the typhoon season in South East Asia is always good for some serious economic destruction, and we had the Katrina fiasco, yet none of the victims of these disasters turned to terrorism. Why not?
Much of the growth in the number of terrorists comes from the education that youth in certain parts of the world receive. The message of hatred and the promise of a ” Don Juan” styled afterlife has created a new generation of people filled with hate, and a willingness to kill themselves. Sounds like a productive way to live your life.
The fact is that with all this wasted money on trying to find the connection between global warming and terrorism, our security will be hampered. Not becuase of this preposterous theory, rather by an “intelligence” council spending their time and money on this instead of trying to track down and kill, wanted terrorists.
What is so sad about this report is not just the fact the people have swallowed this whole global warming thing hook, line and sinker, but the fact that that they don’t understand how serious the threat of terrorism is. To me that is very scary. 9/11 wasn’t that long ago.
BTW- I am investigating the effect global warming has had on the disastrous season that the Seattle Mariners are having. After all the Mariners have experienced social tensions( lots of clubhouse problems) and ineffectual leadership ( manager and GM were fired), and with ever increasing heating up of the planet, the players just can’t deal with it and decided to throw in the towel on the season.
Message to defense attorneys: Forget about the insanity plea, blame it on global warming. ” Your Honor, global warming made me do it.”
To prove just how ridiculous this all is, the article reported: “Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Michigan, said that the report was unreliable and that its authors admitted as much.
“We have a lot of information where we are incapable of assessing it,” Fingar conceded.
So why go through this whole charade to begin with?
